Beaver Pond Farm

beaver pond farmWhat are these sheep for?
Pets, and to supply wool. They are no longer bred for food.

How do I care and feed these sheep?
These sheep love grass; but there are needs such as protection from coyotes, a shelter to keep them out of the bad weather, etc. that should be addressed.

How are these sheep raised?
They are born on the screened in porch and bottle fed until the late spring. These sheep think they are members of the family. They are intelligent, tame quickly and seem to truly enjoy interaction with humans; including children.

How big are Babydoll sheep?
They have cute woolly faces, which seem to smile.

What is the wool like?
Their wool is short stapled and fine. It grades at about 55-60, and spinners enjoy working with the wool. Fleece test at 19- 20 microns, which puts it in the class of cashmere. It has more barbs per inch than any other wool types and makes it ideal to blend with either angora rabbit or angora goat for spinning.
